Pai – Last Day: Visiting Pai Canyon

Pai Canyon in Northern Thailand
We awoke a little earlier than usual, ate breakfast, checked out and hit the road, once again enjoying the countryside and this time with the destination of the Pai Canyon. From the parking lot, the trail began like this:

…but very soon graduated to this:

It was easy to keep going in the canyon because there was always a promise of an even more spectacular view just around the corner:

So we kept going as far as we could go:

Until at last we couldn’t go any further. What a spectacular view. Totally worth it!

We were reminded of Silverstein’s book Where the Sidewalk Ends:

Then of course there was the matter of going back to the parking lot to get our motorbike. At times, we thought we may have bitten off more than we could chew…

…but we eventually made it, even in the on again/off again rain.

We retraced our drive to the bungalow where we had just stayed, retrieved our bags they were kind enough to hold for us, and Mindy drove us safely into town to return the motorbike and pick up the barf bus back to Chiang Mai. We had gotten there very early to try to get the very front seats so Mindy wouldn’t feel so sick. We met a Dutch couple aiming to do the same thing. So we worked out that the person of each couple who suffered from motion sickness would sit in the very front and the other half of each couple would sit just behind them. It worked like a charm because no one got sick. It also helped that this driver was excellent and didn’t seem to be in a rush. He took each turn slowly and smoothly.
So we are back in Chiang Mai now and both going back to work tomorrow. It has been a very nice long weekend.
We’ll leave you with some beautiful pictures (if you look closely, you can see Ligeia under a tree to the left):

Lots of love and thanks for following our Thai adventures!
