Our Trip to the Rock – Newfoundland

Moose in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland

Mindy and Ligeia spent two weeks camping in and around Newfoundland. Here are some pictures that document our trip:

Our first full day there we took a Whale and Puffin Boat Tour.

And we saw lots of whales and even more puffins. Mindy was so happy because she didn’t get sick.

This was the first of several camp sites that we visited. Mindy’s cooking up soy hotdogs and corn on the cob. Yummy!

We were told you could see humpback whales from shore so Mindy put on her whale binoculars and we saw several of them. It was amazing!

We couldn’t resist. We followed the sign looking for any sign of a Dildo and…

we found it!!!

Our favorite camp site was in Gros Mourne National Park. Our tent was a few feet away from this beautiful lake. We spent 4 days here.

We saw lots of wildlife in the park including this bald eagle that Mindy spotted while driving…

and this moose among other. One morning we awoke to a moose right outside our tent. We saw a bear too but we wisely didn’t stick around to get any pictures.

Mindy got really good at making inukshuks. This is the first one she made.

Everywhere we drove we saw lots of scenery like this. We sat on the rocks and watched the waves crash on the shore for several hours. We also saw whales…(Mindy’s binoculars helped with that.)

We took a boat tour of this former fjord.

After two weeks of camping and all that rain we were still smiling.

The houses in St. John’s are traditionally very colorful. They reminded me a bit of the houses in San Fransisco.

And to leave things on a humorous note, we thought this was noteworthy to share with the world. Newfoundland now has toilets of the modern flush variety and they are apparently very proud of that. 🙂

We had a wonderful time and would recommend it to anyone who likes beautiful scenery.
lots of love,
Ligeia and Mindy :):)
