Since driers are either non-existent or scare in Chiang Mai, we hang dry our clothing using a combination of a drying rack and hangers on our balcony, which seems very common here as laundry can be seen drying on everyone else’s balconies too.
This evening when we went to collect our dry clothing, we noticed something unfamiliar on one of Mindy’s shirts. It was large and it caught us by surprise:
Upon closer inspection, it was quite scary looking, with HUGE eyes and 6 legs, a pair of antenna and it squirted out an orange liquid every once in awhile. We had NO idea what this was but we both agreed that we needed to rewash the shirt:
After we gently coaxed it out of the collar of the shirt and got a better look at it, we could finally see that it was some sort of large moth and it was quite beautiful:
We’ve taken in all the clothing now and our new friend is happily resting on the air-conditioner unit on the balcony. We wonder if it will still be there in the morning.
It goes to show that just when we had become rather complacent in Thailand, anything can still happen.
Love,
Mindy and Ligeia :):)

So whatever happened to the little guy?
Ligeia and Mindy
We tried to get the bug off the shirt by gently using a chopstick, but it didn't want to go at first. Eventually, we got it off and put it on the air-conditioner. But it only ended up going to one of the other shirts hanging up so we had the same issue all over again. After taking down all the remaining shirts, we tried again and left it on the air-conditioning unit. The next morning we checked to see if it was still there, but it wasn't. We haven't seen it since.

I can see you picked the right country to get your favorite food so easily. Read up about the festival – thanks for the education.
Love the moth and wish it has a happy night life.
xo Oma 🙂
