Rawk Star Cafe – Raw Vegan Restaurant in Florida

Located in an unassuming strip mall off of US Highway 19 near Tampa Road, Rawk Star Cafe is a raw vegan restaurant in Florida, about 45 minutes west of Tampa. This cleverly named cafe not only serves 100% raw vegan meals but also sells a variety of raw vegan groceries. Whether you are on a lunch break at work or are looking for a dinner on a Friday night, Rawk Star fits the bill.

Atmosphere

The brightly-colored interior with beautiful images and useful information on super foods help create a friendly atmosphere where people can enjoy a healthy meal. We were welcomed by one of the owners, Adam, even before we stepped inside the cafe.

Meet the Owners

The owners, Karen and Adam, are a married couple, who have been operating this raw vegan restaurant in Florida for the past five years. Karen is a trained oncology nurse with a vast knowledge of nutrition and with Adam’s background in the restaurant business opening a healthy cafe seemed like a no-brainer.

Menu

The Rawk Star menu features raw versions of classic North American dishes. Each meal has been designed with superfoods, non-GMO and organic ingredients in mind. We ordered a pizza slice with olives, rawghetti and chili. While we found each meal easily satisfied our taste buds, the raw chili was most impressive as the many flavors unfolded in a seemingly timed sequence.

The desserts included various cakes and pies, pudding, brownies, macaroons and an assortment of ice-cream flavors. All the desserts are free of gluten, dairy, soy, corn, GMOs and processed sugar, so customers can feel guilt-free while enjoying a delicious bit of sweetness after their meal.

The groceries for sale include raw sauerkrauts, nut butters, chickpea miso, kombucha and various superfoods. If you’re not sure what exactly some of these items are, the owners are very knowledgeable about all the products and are happy to answer any questions.

Note to Ethical Vegans

While all the meals and smoothies on the menu are 100% vegan, bee pollen and honey are also offered. I was assured by the owners, however, that these items are not used in any of the meals or desserts and are only used in smoothies if specifically requested. The desserts, which looked fantastic, are sweetened with agave syrup. Still, to be certain, ethical vegans should inquire before ordering.

Prices and Service

We were surprised at the reasonable prices of the menu items. With six out of the seven menu items priced at less than $10, Rawk Star easily competes with other restaurant options in the area.

The service was excellent! The food was served to our table quickly and with a smile. We were also enticed with a few smoothie samples. It was clear that good service is a priority of the owners.
