On Tuesday, Mindy went to visit a couple of friends, Heather & Tam with Benjamin (their 3-month old son), as they relaxed at their parents’ vacation home in Orlando. Located within a golf and country club, the house and backyard were beautiful. The fact that it was part of a golf club, Heather and Mindy went to driving range to practice their swings.
This was only the second time Mindy had ever tried hitting golf balls (not including the fluorescent putters that mini-golf attendants give you), and she did quite well. With Heather’s tips of planting your feet firmly and keeping your head down, Mindy managed to get 2 or 3 good drives. The others, well, they were more closely related to field-hockey passes, missed shots at billiards, or the baseball swing-and-miss (accompanied by the familiar “whiff” sound, that lets everyone on the driving range know that you screwed that shot up).

On the way there, Mindy stopped at a citrus grove and bought a 1/4 bushel of freshly-picked navel oranges and a pomelo (sort of a cross between a grapefruit and an orange, but they’re huge!) These varieties are in season now, so they’re really tasty. It definitely won’t take us long to eat our way through them!
This weekend, Mindy is scheduled to umpire again. Perhaps we’ll get some pictures of her in the new uniform.
