Kuala Lumpur – FRIM and the Canopy Walkway

Canopy Walkway in Kuala Lampur
Mindy and Ligeia started their day with breakfast of masala dosa at their favorite Indian place again, after which they jumped on a train and went to Kepong station. From there we took a short taxi ride to FRIM, a large forest preserve area with many hiking opportunities, one of which leads to a canopy walkway. We began on our hike amidst gorgeous greenery:

Not far into our hike we heard rustling in the treetops. Knowing that this most likely means monkeys are nearby, we stopped, look up and saw a couple. We soon saw a couple more, this time in trees across the path, then some more and then before we knew it we realized there were monkeys all around us, in the trees and on the ground. What a great way to start a hike:

After lots of “up” we came to the canopy walkway, which was reportedly 30 meters (90 feet) off the ground:

There was a moment of panic when we realized that this entire contraption was made out of nothing more than rope, ladders and wooden planks:

But we ventured out anyway (after all we had paid ;). The scariest part was when several people were on the walkway at the same time, causing it to swing and bounce:

This walkway offered gorgeous views of the city:

On the way back down we found a nice mountain stream that provided some cool relief from the heat and humidity:

The rest of the afternoon involved several modes of transportation, including walking, a taxi, a train, a bus and a shuttle (in that order) eventually leading us to a new hotel near the airport. We were so hungry and made the mistake of thinking we could get something to eat at or near the new hotel. Due to  Ramadam however we discovered that everything in the new area was closed. So we had to wait until the sun went down before we could eat.

We awoke at 3:30am to get a shuttle to the airport and are now waiting at the gate to go back to Chiang Mai with our new Thai visas in hand.
Lots of love to everyone,
Mindy and Ligeia :):)
