Every year many tourists come to the small town of Chiang Mai to soak up the sun, relax from the stress of daily life and enjoy amazing cuisine. Located on the bustling street of Loy Kroh in the tourist center of Chiang Mai, the Centara Duangtawan Hotel provides the ultimate luxurious experience.
One of the tallest buildings in all of Chiang Mai, we could see the hotel well before arriving. Upon walking in we were struck by the grandioseness of the welcome with beautiful chandeliers and staircases fit for a ball on either side leading guests to the reception just above.
Beautiful flowers were prominently displayed in various locations and we were graciously welcomed by the reception staff.
Centara Duangtawan has over 500 rooms and we stayed in a Dynasty Room on the 20th floor. What a view of the city! The first impression of the hotel extended itself to our air-conditioned room with ample space, three locations to sit and chat or get some work done and a very comfortable bed.
Thoughtful additions, such as a fruit plate, fresh roses and stocked mini-bar complete the luxurious experience.
The large bathroom was equipped with both a deep soaker tub and a stand up enclosed shower with fantastic water pressure. You can style your hair with the hair-dryer provided or make use of the electrical outlets offering both 110V and 220V (converter conveniently not required!) The slippers and robe were very nice touches, making our stay that much more comfortable.
The amenities at Centara Duangtawan are what makes this hotel stand out from others in the area. They offer everything from a large pool overlooking Suthep Mountain to a variety of lounges and restaurants to getting massages in your room. The entire fourth floor is dedicated to the body, with a spa, fitness rooms where you can hire a personal trainer, a hot tub, a steam room and a sauna.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that it was pouring rain for most of our stay, we weren’t able to go for a swim, nor witness the sunset from the pool deck. That’s on our list for next time!
The Dynasty Lounge on the 23rd floor features scenic views of the city, cocktails and snacks throughout the day. This area is furnished with comfortable couches and tasteful artwork.
Room amenities include wifi, a safe and complimentary tea and coffee. An extensive room service menu is available, as well as a list of spa services that can be performed without leaving the comfort of your room.
Numerous additional services are available, such as transportation, concierge and the use of seminar rooms.
On Friday and Saturday evenings Centara Duangtawan puts on an extensive Japanese buffet in the Tawan Restaurant located on the second floor. Since the number of vegan options available were limited, the staff went out of their way to make us a la carte dishes, which were both varied and delicious.
Although not exactly Japanese, we very much enjoyed the fried potatoes in the buffet. Other favorites included the make your own soba and somen noodle dishes, and the array of desserts are not to be missed. We highly recommend the cassava root in syrup as well as the fresh fruit.
At the breakfast buffet, there were a couple of hot dishes we could eat, along with bread, salad and fruit. We would have loved to see some options for vegan protein, such as soy milk for the muesli or cashews in the fried rice, but we certainly had enough to eat.
All and all, if you are looking to be pampered during your stay in Chiang Mai, the Centara Duangtawan is the perfect choice!
