Apollo Beach, Florida – Manatee Viewing

Viewing Manatees at Apollo Beach, Florida

Our friend Fred came down from Baltimore for a weekend visit. Our first stop was Apollo Beach. You might be surprised to learn that a nuclear power plant…

…would provide a wildlife viewing opportunity,…
…but in Florida they do, especially for the manatees who prefer the warm water of the nuclear power plant to the cold water of the Gulf of Mexico.
There were easily 30 manatees out there!
We were also able to view other animals such as this stingray pretending to be hidden…
…this beautiful pelican…
and this other bird whose name we don’t know:
Later in the afternoon, we took a short hike at the Brooker Creek Preserve.
